These Terms of Use are subject to change as REED develops. We will notify users of material changes through the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Welcome to REED, a reading companion app developed by COG Learning ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the REED app ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. About the App

REED is a reading companion app designed to support interactive reading between caregivers and young children. The App provides AI-generated questions to encourage conversation about picture books. Book content displayed within the App, such as cover images and metadata, is used under license from publishers and rights holders. You must have your own legally obtained copy (physical, digital, or borrowed from a library) of each book you read with the App.

2. Eligibility

The App is intended for use by adults (parents, caregivers, and educators) reading with children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the App. Children should use the App only under adult supervision.

3. Accounts

You may be required to create an account to access certain features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Books and Publisher Content

The App displays certain book content, including cover images, metadata, and related materials, under license from publishers and rights holders. This content is provided solely to power the App's reading and question features.

You agree that you will not:

  • Attempt to access, extract, or reverse-engineer any book data stored or used by the App
  • Copy, reproduce, distribute, or use any publisher content presented in the App for any purpose outside the App
  • Use the App with books you have not legally obtained

All publisher content remains the intellectual property of the respective publishers and rights holders.

5. AI-Generated Questions

The reading questions presented in the App are generated using artificial intelligence and machine learning models. These questions are proprietary content of COG Learning. You agree that you will not copy, reproduce, redistribute, or use the questions outside of the App for any purpose. Please also be aware that:

  • Questions are educational suggestions intended to support caregiver-child interaction, not replace it
  • Questions do not constitute professional developmental, pedagogical, or medical advice
  • While we strive for quality, we cannot guarantee that every question will be appropriate for every child or situation
  • Caregivers should use their own judgment when engaging with the questions

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App or any of its components
  • Attempt to circumvent any security or content protection measures
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality or servers

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, COG LEARNING DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL COG LEARNING, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF COG LEARNING HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause or notice. You may also delete your account at any time through the App's settings or by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the App will immediately cease.

10. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
